EFFECT OF PRE-RECORDED AUDIO MATERIAL ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LISTENING SKILL IN SABON GARI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KADUNA STATE

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of pre-recorded audio material on academic performance of Secondary School students in English Language Listening Skill in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The design adopted was quasi-experimental design with posttest only. Four null hypotheses and four research questions were formulated based on the objectives of the study. The population of the study was all students in 13 government senior secondary schools in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State with 3,018 S.S 2 students out of which 120 students were selected as sample size. Sixty students were assigned to experimental group while the other 60 formed control group. The instrument used for the study was achievement test. Inferential and descriptive statistical tools were employed to analyze the data collected and out of the four null hypotheses tested, one was rejected while three were retained. The findings showed that the experimental group performed significantly better than the control group and this implied that pre-recorded audio material was found to be effective in improving the academic performance of the students. The researcher therefore recommended that government and school administrators should provide adequate language laboratory with well-equipped instructional media to schools and that more emphasis should be laid on the teaching of listening skill by English language teachers.
