Abstract
ABSTRACT Gripped by the current "Better Life for Women Programme" nationwide campaign, the women of Eggon tribe in Plateau State i Nigeria, amongst them well placed civil servants and technocrats felt the need to establish a Training Centre in their community. Studies revealed the urgent need for such a Centre given that none of its kind was found within that part of the country. Activities considered to be complementary to existing practices in the community are integrated into the concept of the Centre to enable it live up to the challenges of a new and increasing population as a result of its recent status as a Local Government Headquarter. The thrust is for real development which connotes training of the creative capacity of a people to efficiently transform natural resources at their disposal into goods and services to meet everyday needs. The Centre concept takes cognisance of the unique activites of women in the area ostensibly to identify problems and proffer solutions. The Centre is thus viewed as a showcase intended also to spur other organs within the community towards greater and faster overall development.
