Abstract
In recognition of the priority given to rural development, the campaigns for the use of available local building materials and the emphasis on the culture by this country, it is the aim of this thesis: To attempt a resettlement of the displaced people given them habitation that respect their tradition, culture and architecture; And to investigate the existing situation in the settlement of Gude people. The thesis will also try to appreciate the unbreakable family and community ties in order to strengthen their relationship through the physical planning and arrangement of spaces that will give them their contemporary culture and nature of their settlement. To achieve the goal, the proposal adopted the tradition concept of centralisation communal facilities and the inclusion of small communal open spaces within wards and clusters. Also three types of housing prototypes were proposed in accordance with identified three types of family structure. The development of the houses can be stages. Due to variation in the requirement of the people these should be subject to alteration by the owner with approval of the appropriate authority. viii Furthermore, these research work will go into evolving a valid, meaningful and realistic Architectural proposal for the resettlement of Gude village. It is hoped this will serve as a model in the state for future resettlement programmes.
