| dc.description.abstract | This thesis is an appraisal of the Nigerian Sugar Company limited (NISUC0) Bacita, as an enterprise to the socio-economic development of Nigeria. The analysis was based on some aims and objectives for which the company was established, i.e. ensuring adequate supply of sugar, provision of employment and the encouragement of the sugar cane farmers cooperatives ( outgrowers-scheme). NISUCO within the framework as an instrument for plain implementation , Regional development agent for social-equity and the development of backward regions has made significant contributions to the socio economic development of the country as revealed by the study. This is most especially in the of sugar production, provision of employment and Human Resource Development, Incomes and the improvement in the standard of living of the people. The data used for this study was obtained through questionnaire and interview techniques and by the use of official documents such as Annual reports, Technical Brochure and the Fact sheet on the company. However, it was discovered that a number of factors have been responsible for inefficiency and ineffectiveness of the organization. This include government interference in decision making „ over staffing , lack of fund and autonomy . other areas identified were aged factory and irrigation equipments, spare parts etc. Recommendations were also of fired so that the company can be able to boosts its production capacity to enable it meet the country's domestic sugar requirement as well as to export to the neighboring countries. | en_US |
