Abstract
The major concern of this study has been to
examine the nature and level of co-ordination in
terms of effectiveness or otherwise of health service
programmes offered by the Kaduna State Health Management
Board. It also attempts to determine the factors that
mostly affect co-ordination of health service programmes
of the Board, and how such factors influence the
efficient delivery of services to the people.
The health of the people depends on the quality and
quantity of the health services provided by the government,
which in turn depend on effective management of the
agency or machinery responsible for the discharge of these
services.
The study essentially employed the questionnaire
and interview methods for data collection. A stratified
random sampling was used in selecting the subjects
because the sample was not homogenous. Using this
technique a total of 225 respondents were sampled for
this study. The technique used in analyzing data are
the statistical frequency distribution and simple
percentages. The major hypotheses tested revealed that
there is ineffective co-ordination of health services
by the Board. Our analysis also indicated that
co-ordination could be seen from the perspective of
internal and external or vertical and horizontal
dimensions.
(vii)
On the factors the mostly affect co-ordination
it was revealed that a combination of variables affect
co-ordination in the Board. And the combined effects
of delegation, informal groups activities and
political forces were negative. In the study therefore
efficient and satisfactory delivery of health services
to the teeming population has been an illusion.
Finally, suggestions for improvement were made and in
this way the government will endeavour to fulfill its
social responsibility for the sake of good life.
