Abstract
This study focused on the assessment of funding and management in public secondary schools in Gashua/Nguru Educational Zone Yobe State, Nigeria. The study was set up to achieve four objectives among which are; assess the funding of public secondary schools through government grants and how the funds provided are managed in Gashua/Nguru educational zones, determine the funding of public secondary schools through school fees and how the funds generated are managed in Gashua/Nguru educational zones; four research questions and four hypotheses were also formulated to guide the study. Relevant literature to this study were reviewed and all authors cited in the works were duly acknowledged in the reference. The research design adopted for this study was descriptive survey research type .The target population of this study was 1,262. A sample of 213 subjects were used, using stratified random sampling technique. The instrument used by the researcher was questionnaires for data collection; its content, clarity and appropriateness were also validated.30 teachers ,PTA/SBMC were used for pilot testing and the reliability was obtained at 0.98.Hypotheses 1 to 4 was tested by using ANOVA at alpha P < 0.05 level of significance research question were answered using mean responses, standard deviation and standard errors. The findings revealed that the two hypotheses shows that there is significant difference. While the other two hypotheses indicate that there was no significance difference in the group of respondent on the contributions of funds generated from PTA/SBMC on provision of facilities in secondary schools in Gashua/Nguru education Zones. Based on these findings it was concluded that the funds generated from government and school fees are not enough in providing school facilities in secondary schools. It was therefore, recommended that government should disburse sufficient funds in order to provide teaching and learning facilities in time to the school to enable the implementation process be successful.
