Abstract
This study analysed the influence of Personal Social problems on academic performance of secondary school students in Kaduna state, Nigeria.Four objectives with four corresponding research questions and hypotheses were stated and survey design was used. Data for the study were collected from 500 respondents (male= 245 and female = 255) using personal social problem questionnaire structured on a four points fixed response format and objective type academic performance test. The data collected were sorted and analyzed to test the stated null hypotheses using Pearson correlation and independent sample t - test at alpha = .05. The result of the analyses reveals that personal problems significantly influence academic performance, and social problems was also found to have significant influence on students‘ academic performance. Significant difference was also found in the influence of personal social problems on female students when compared to male students. Based on the findings of this study, it wasrecommended that counsellors,principals, parents and teachers should be sensitized on the influence of personal social problems to redress students‘ academic performances in school
