Abstract
The National Shipping it the result of the progressive efforts of the Federal Government
to grapple and contain the problems identified in her international trade, even before the
year of Independence.
Common among these problems are these related to its terms of trade and shipping
practice inadequacy of services, structure of freight rate and depletion of forex.
Chapter 2, gives the framework needed to support the study while outing the History of
Shipping and Shipping activities in Nigeria, it traces the establishment of the apex body
empowered to coordinate and implement the National Shipping Policy decree- the
National Maritime Authority; it provides the performance of shipping prior to the advent
0 the National Shipping Policy.
In chapter 3, the research methodology is discussed, data presented, analysed, and finding
made.
finally, chapter 4 concludes by summarizing the study and providing necessary
recommendations.
