dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The rationale, for museum of Islamic arts and culture are studied in chapter One . The main reason is the need to preserve the relics of the Sokoto caliphate. Islamic arts should be studied in social, religious and economic content. It is observed in chapter two that Islamics arts are nonfigurative ^geometric in pattern and utilitarian in function. Islamic arts in broad terms means arts for and of muslimso History of early museums is a history of private collections of artifacts and antiquities. In chapter three, historical developement and social roles of museums are studied,, Provision of conducive environment for museums activities has occupied the minds of many architects and their patrons. Factors that influence location of museum are examined in chapter four. Design and planning principles are also examined. A study of museums in Nigeria shows poor attendance to the museum. Factors responsible for this are examined in chapter five. Chapter six discusses design report of the thesis. This include site analysis, concept) brief and space requirements. Chapter seven is the summary and conclusion of the previous chaptersen_US
