Abstract
Because conflict is inevitable in organizations, one of the functions of organizations is to avoid it by specifying in advance the structure with which to operate - specifying the relationships between the people who will do the work. However, the very existence of formal organization almost insures that conflict will occur, This stems from competition for scarce resources, differences in personal values, line/staff disagreements, and lack of clearly defined responsibilities. Conflict can also arise as a result of: leadership failure, human short comings such as cowardice stupidity, and greed; failure to control, plan and execute adequately; lack of participative management. Some of these are surely the causes of the conflict existing in the Nigerian Airports Authority today. Organizations react mechanically to fight these failures by the emergence of informal systems (informal organizations). In the case of the Nigerian Airports Authority, Operations Department on the one hand and the other Departments on the other, emerged as informal organizations. Conflict connotes problem, and detecting the problem is as important as finding the answer - thus "Conflict Resolution in the Nigerian Airports Authority" is the theme of this research.
