dc.description.abstractThis study investigated trends in empirical researches on the Nigerian –based Arabic literary works in the Nigerian Universities. The scope of the study covered researches conducted by Master’s and Ph.D. Arabic students in eight randomly selected Nigerian Universities that offer Arabic Studies from 1970 to 2010. Employing Content Analysis Research Technique, the general trends of such researches pertaining to scope, designs, approaches and findings were thoroughly analyzed. The results of the study revealed that most of the researches were historical in approach thus came up with findings describing and analyzing the historical evolution of Arabic literature in Nigeria but ignoring the social and psychological frameworks of such works. The study further discovered that the studies were mostly conducted on either the Arabic literary works of some particular Arabic Scholars or in some other rare instances the general trends of the works. The results however revealed that the researches were mostly carried out employing traditional research methods at the detriment of modern research techniques; this resulted into loss of many important data. The major themes and genre of such studies covered both poetry and prose works trending and featuring the excellent growth and fast development of Arabic literature in the country. In the same vein, the study discovered that the researchers left a number of areas unexplored.en_US
