Abstract
ABSTRACT
The Agency for Mass Education (AME) Kano has
made a tremendous progress in its literacy campaign. In
1983, it won the Iraqi literacy honour for its literacy
campaign in Kano. Since the world of education
recognises the contribution of educational materials in
learning, this research was therefore motivated by the
question of whether the campaign uses educational materials
for its . programmes. The study was therefore
undertaken to determine:-
1) The availability of educational materials for
the campaign;
2) How much educational materials are being used
in the campaign;
3) Who prepares the educational materials for field use;
4) How much imported educational materials are used in
the programme.
The literature search revealed that the use of
educational materials is necessary for the
eradication of illiteracy. It also showed how adult
learners can modify their environment through learning
if educational materials are used. It finally revealed
that little use is made of educational materials in
the Nigerian Mass Literacy Programmes.
I am appreciative of the Department of Education,
Instructional Technology Section, Ahmadu Bello University,
Zaria for the material support. I am indepted to all the
authors whom I have quoted or referred to throughout
this study. I am grateful to the Kano State College of
Education who sponsored me to attend the M.Ed programme.
I am also appreciative of the tolerance of my beloved
wife, Aishatu Muhammed Usman, for my constant absence
during the programme. Finally I am grateful to
Chidiebere Orji of Kano State College of Education
Gurnel Campus for typing this work.
