dc.description.abstractA B S T R A C T Nigeria is on the threshold of Industrial takeoff and though it (Nigeria) provide a base for foreign investors, no study of importance has been undertaken to ascertain the extent to which Multinationals Corporations (MNCs) in particular UAC have contributed to or can contribute to the development of the Nigerian economy. The research sees'MNC as a recognised feature of changing business and can help elevate the country from poverty to a higher level of living. UAC has come a long way in the history of Nigeria but it has been found that though it (UAC) invests out of the huge profits made, in the country, not much have been done to advance the progress of the country economically. At best, the company has suceeded in safeguarding its source of profits. However, a framework for explaining overall UAC's contribution to the Nation's economic development may have some problems viz:- Economic, Social, Political/Legal, Managerial and Technological, the company has a role in interpreting the nation's economic objectives in terms of development growth thus justifying the government's encouragement to foreign firms to do honest business to the advantage of both the nation and the firms. UAC is the biggest and oldest MNC in Nigeria, it may constitute a hub in the economic wheel of Nigeria's development.en_US
