dc.description.abstractThe Nigerian Building Construction Industry is characterised with several problems, all detrimental to its developmental growth. Stories have continued to appear on the pages of the Nigerian national dailies reporting projects' abandonment, collapse of structures and inflated costs of constructions. Professionalism have been identified as the grassroots solution which forms the foundation to understanding and implementing the theories, models already established. This philosophy is what informed this research, details of which are revealed In the main chapters. Professionalism entails educational as well as professional training; knowledge and enforcement of professional code of ethical conduct; professional registration; right and liability; communication; and effective management method. The practice of professionalism is essential in all sectors of endeavour; the public sector, private sector and the academics. The research ASSESSMENT OF SOME INDICES OF PROFESSIONALISM IN THE NIGERIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, was enhanced with the help of questionnaires targeted to the professionals in the fields of architecture, building, engineering and quantity surveying in the northern part of the country. A total of 100 questionnaires were distributed and 90 were received representing 90% of the distributed. However, 67 representing 74% of the collected were considered for analysis, while the remaining were rejected for specific reasons. The responses analysed showed that the knowledge of professionalism and its ingredients were not fully comprehended. For instance code of conduct and professional registration among others were neglects by the professionals. Finally, the research was concluded with some recommendations which are expected to enhance the practice of professionalism in the construction industryen_US
