Abstract
This thesis explores the use of building maintenance records
of the Nigerian Air Force Base, Jos, for the purposes of planning
building maintenance work.
There is need to organise and manage the scarce resources
usually available for maintenance work in a prudent manner.
However, this is only possible if decisions are based on informed
judgement. The study is concerned with data relating to maintenance
expenditure on the various building facilities of the Base, which
have to be completed tabled, juxtaposed and analysed in a manner
that will make them usable in budgeting for maintenance work.
A major area of interest here is to keep or improve every
building facility, its services and surrounds to a currently
acceptable standard and as well as to sustain the utility and value
of the facility.
The results of the study showed that with good planning skill
and appropriate cost recording, maintenance records could be a
useful tool for improving the efficiency of maintenance budgeting.
Recommendations on how to improve the reliability of this
information through appropriate methods of documentation have also
been made.
