Abstract
The planning and design of hospital outdoor spaces to assist in the healing process of children is new in Nigeria but full of prospect in the health care sector. It is of particular importance to health care providers and designers as it could result in better patient management and care. However, its potentials have not been fully exploited. The study explores and examines the relationship between various landscape elements and healing. Case studies were conducted and data was collected through visual surveys and interviews. Findings show that the outdoor environment is not generally used as a means of therapy in hospitals. With proper design and implementation, hospital outdoor spaces can be made into therapeutic platforms for children to play, rest and socialize while recovering from their illness; and also provide a conducive environment for their caregivers and other hospital staff.
