dc.description.abstracthe main objective of this study was to investigate the degree to which the stated art education objectives, as contained in the National Curriculum for Senior Secondary Schools are being achieved in Kaduna State. Two (2) questionnaires were used. One was for students and the other was for art teachers. Each questionnaire was made up of thirty-four (34) items developed from the Federal Government stated objectives for Art Education. The population for the study was two hundred and sixty-two (262) art students and twenty nine (29) art teachers in Senior Secondary Schools. The following four null hypotheses were tested: 1. There is no significant difference between teachers' and students' opinion concerning the achievement of the stated objectives of art education; 2. There is no significant difference between the opinion of students in rural schools and students in urabn schools concerning the achievement of the stated objectives of art education; 3. There is no significant difference between students' perceived art education objectives and the stated objectives; and 4. There is no significant difference between teachers' perceived art education objectives and the stated objectives. The results of the statistical tests of the 1st and 2nd hypotheses showed no significant difference between teachers' and students' opinion concerning the achievement of the stated objectives of art education, as well as between rural students' and urban students' opinion concerning the achievement of the stated objectives. But the outcome of the 3rd and 4th hypotheses showed significant differences between students' perceived art education objectives and the stated objectives, as well as between teachers' perceived art education objectives and the stated objectives. The study also revealed the following: 1. The stated objectives of art education in the National Curriculum for Senior Secondary Schools have been achieved to a certain degree; 2. Shortage of trained art teachers still existed in schools; 3. Many art teachers do not seem to exploit their environment to enhance their teaching; 4. Functional subjects inspectors no longer exist. The researcher therefore recommends the following: 1. More trained art teachers should be employed; 2. The Ministry of Education should bring back the idea of functional subject inspection; 3. Workings and conferences should be organised regularly for teachers for exchange of ideas; 4. Art teachers should include local crafts in their programme as a way of exploiting their environment.en_US
