The present status of fish culture development in the ten northern states were investigated. All the relevant data on one fish culture projects in the ten states were collected by visitation and the use of questionaires, it was found that a few states, notably Bauchi and Gongola are as at now, still trying to construct their first fish farms. it was also found that generally, fish culture is yet to be developed in the area under review though there are potentials for increased productivity. The problems militating against the development of fish culture in this area were discussed side by side with recommendation for future development. The recommendations amongst others include, strategies for better fish farm management techniques, training and staff development, site/cultivar selection and communication with research institutes and universities.en_US
