The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which the roles and functions of District school supervisors contribute to the improved condition of primary schools required in Kano State. A sample of 11 District Education Officers and 22 District School Supervisors was drawn for the purpose of collecting data for the study, one hundred and four Headmasters with 456 teachers in Kano State participated in the study. Four different sets of questionnaires were administered for data collection. However, the sample was adopted by way of using the method suggested by Borg and Gall (1971). The collected data were interpreted using frequencies and simple percentages. The findings showed that the schools are lacking in accommodation and other instructional facilities. Furthermore, it was discovered that communication between the supervisor, the Teachers and the Headmasters is not effective. Along this line, the provision of transportation facilities to the supervisors, for the discharge of their duties was found to be inadequate. It was found that headmasters do not give instructional leadership especially on staff development, seminar and workshop, induction and refresher courses. The study then recommends that since the quality of the teaching force is the backbone of effective teaching and learning, the supervisors should on their own part ensure that the teachers are given access to in-service courses on eitherpart- time or full-time basis, on the provision of adequate facilities for teaching the District School supervisor should act as a liaison agent between the school, the teacher and the administrator, in this regard, the supervisor has to understand the problems of the teachers and also try to be familiar with the sources of help for the teachers, the headmasters and the schools. The researcher further recommends that there is the need for permanent vehicle and a fixed typist/ clerk to the office of the D.S.S.en_US
