Abstract
This research studied the influence of insurgency on family relationship among the internally
displaced persons in North-East, Nigeria. The major objective aimed at determining the
influence of insurgency on family relationship of the internally displaced persons in North-
East, Nigeria. Four (4) objectives, four (4) research questions and four (4) null hypotheses
were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted the survey research design. The
population for the study comprised of 229,721 IDPs in all the IDP camps of the three states in
North-East, Nigeria. Atotal of 400 respondents were selected using stratified sampling
techniques. The sample was obtained from the two highest populated IDP camps fromthe
three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe state.A developed questionnaire which was pilot
tested with reliability (Chronbach's alpha) of 0.842 was used for the study. Thus, a total of
four hundred (400) copiesof the questionnaire were distributed while three hundred and
eighty were (380) completed and retrieved. The demographic data was organized using
frequency count and percentages while mean and standard deviation was used to answer the
research questions. Mean of 2.50 and above was set as having influence while the mean of
2.49 and below signifies not having influence.Chi-square statistic was used to test all the null
hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that; insurgency has
significant influence on spousal relationshipwith2.33 mean and 1.10 standard deviation while
the test of hypotheses revealed that the chi squarecalculated is greater than the table value (
2 Computed = 143.03, 2 Critical = 40.12 at 0.5 level of significance). It was
recommendedthat spouses (husband/wife) should be encouraged to have special time for
themselves and their family, the same way they would if outside the camp.
