dc.description.abstractArabic Manuscripts treated in this thesis have been existing in Nupeland since 15th century, Arabic Manuscripts are sources for recording important information and also explaining fundamental principles of Islam according to the teachings of Quran (Holy book for Muslims) and Hadith Sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammed (Peace and Blessings of Allah be on Him). The research examines the manuscripts of early Ulama in Nupeland specifically those on Social, political, religious injunctions, medicine and islamic Jurisprudence. Hence, the researcher identified the manuscripts originating from Nupeland in the National Achives Kaduna. The life history of four Ulama that contributed towards Islamization of Nupeland are traced and about one hundred and fifty six Arabic manuscripts of three families are studied. It is the aim of the researcher to study the Arabic Manuscripts in Nupeland and make them available for the academic world because of their importance as authentic documents with great value. The related literature are reviewed and the history of Nupe dynasty which existed in the middle belt of Nigeria in the 15th century was traced. Finally, the researcher discussed the deplorable conditions of the manuscripts and the urgent need to harness them because of their importance to humanity. A sample of Arabic Manuscripts is attached at the appendix to potray their physical nature and also their composition. It is a historical manuscripts with a title, 'Kitab al Tarikh Bida'. It narrates the life history of Sheikh Abdulrahamah and Mallam Dendo Manko Musa and also a comprehensive history of some towns in Nupeland.en_US
