Abstract
The objective of this study was to examine the role performance of secondary school bursar in the administration of schools. Five research questions and four hypotheses were formulated to direct the investigation. The Kaduna State School principals, teachers and bursars formed the population of this study. The data gathering instrument is the questionnaire. The data collected were analysed using percentages, Pearson Morement correlation and ANOVA tests. The major findings of the study showed that: the higher the bursar's qualification, the better his role performance; bursars, Principals and Teachers have similar views on the factors affecting the role performance of school bursars; The factors are inadequate trainning, experience, insufficient tools and staff; the study also showed that bursars contribute significantly to the success of school administration. But there is a significant difference in the opinions of bursars, principals and teachers on the roles performed by school bursars. On the basis of these findings, it was recommended that: the bursars role should be well spelt out and communicated to all school personnel. The bursars should be allowed to perform their roles; and that there should periodic conferences, seminars, and workshops for the bursars; the minimum qualification for bursars should be a National Diploma (OND) but a degree is most appropriate for a better performance.
