Abstract
This Study is an attempt to assess the effectiveness
of the graduates of the College of Agriculture, Lafia in
Nasarawa State as extension agents.
In doing this, the opinion of the graduates and that
of their employers and farmers were sought using structured
questionnaires.
The survey conducted revealed that the graduates of
the College were satisfied with the training they have
received from the College and also found the training
received to be relevant to their Jobs. Most of the
graduates employers also considered the graduates training
to be adequate, also most of the farmers testified that the
graduates have good human relations and considered extensors
services render-ea by the graduates to be of help for them
to adopt agricultural innovations.
But the research discovered that 50.7% of the
farmers were not satisfied with the graduates interaction
with them, hence 53.4% of them patronized their fellow
farmers for information of improved agricultural practices,
despite the fact, that the graduates use various channels
of communication to disseminate information of improved
agricultural practices to them (farmers).
The study finally recommends the following for the
improvement of the training of the graduates and for the
effectiveness of their performance as extension agents.
More funds should be made available to the College,
the number of agricultural colleges should be reduced.
There should be a definite policy that would create
gainful employment for the graduates. Farmers should
have access to rural banks and there should be constant
refresher courses for the graduates and their instructors
