The research explores some of the basic narratological poetics in Edwidge Danticat‘s narrative texts within the context of Caribbean women narratives in order to, illustrate the extent to which narratology provides deeper understanding of how textual structures of narratives consistently enhance their meaning, demonstrate how the poetics of narratology are viable tools for the examination of how the textual elements of Edwidge Danticat‘s narratives, and show the extent to which, and to what ends the classical narratological poetics of ―narration‖, ―focalization‖, and ―time‖are deployed in the selected texts represent the contextual realities of the Caribbean people. As a result, this dissertation, using Narratology (a text based theory), examines the poetics of narration, focalization and time in Edwidge Danticat‘s The Farming of Bones, The Dew Breaker and Breath, Eyes, Memory. Relying on Gerard Genettean narratological poetics as the framework upon which the analysis is based, the research aimsto validate the extent to which, and to what ends the poetics of narration, focalization and time have been deployed in the selected texts. The dissertation, therefore, adopts the qualitative research methodology which mainly relies on the said primary texts, relevant books, journals, articles, library materials and internet sources as modes of data collection and analysis. The study finds that the application of narration, focalization, and time in The Farming of Bones, The Dew Breaker and Breath, Eyes, Memoryare all intended to capture the realities contained in the narratives. Thus, this dissertation concludes that the effective representation of Haitian/Caribbean contextual realities in The Farming of Bones, The Dew Breaker and Breath, Eyes, Memory are also linked to the effective deployment of the textual poetics of narration, focalization and time in the novel.en_US
