dc.description.abstract | This work focuses on the role of the United Nations in the area of Peacekeeping Operations. The work beings with a discussion of the emergence of the UN itself, its purposes and principles as well as its charter, which all centred on the maintenance of World Peace and Security. The research then examines the general causes of war as well as the remote and immediate causes of the Somali Crises. Using the UN intervention in the Somali crises (UNOSOM), the work summarises the bitter experience of the UN troops in their peacekeeping endeavours. In line with that particular experience the work highlighted the reasons for that failure and attempted to suggest ways of preventing future occurances. | en_US |
