Abstract
preamble
It is the desire of all developing countries to
attain in upward level in terms of socio-economic
advancement, This is important in view of the fact that,
in the modern contemporary world set-up, greatness is
measured within the contex of developed and developing
countries. Among the parameter used to determine the
above categorisation is the level of efficiency of the
modern health care delivery system of a country. One of
the ways of achieving an efficient health care delivery
system in any society, is through a careful study of the
existing state of health care services in that society,
and recommending ways of improving them, to meet the
modern requirements. It is the desire for the realisation
of the above that prompted the choice and the pursuance
of this Thesis, entitled, New Eye Hospital, Kano, The
role of the eye in the human visual system is a vital one.
This is because, the eye, though among the smaller organs
of the human body structure, is the principal agent of
one of the main networks of the brain system, that is,
the sense of seeing. Without the eye, the human visual
system is rendered ineffective.
Philosophy
Mukhtar (1987) defined hospital "as an institution
staffed and equipped for the diagnosis of the sick or
injured, for their housing during treatnent, health
examinations and for the management of child birth,"
Diagnosis and treatment, in the modern health care
services, are effected using modern scientific and te
technological instruments, with specially trained personn
Hence, specially designed buildings are needed to act as
a nice environment for the staff end the patients.
Aims a nd objectives
It is the aim of this Thesis to evolve:
1, adesign of en eye hospital based on a careful study
and analysis of the climatic end environmental
conditions of Kano City.
2, a design proposal that will meet the standard
requirements of an eye hospital as an institution.
The aims could be achieved through the following
objectives:
(a) case study of the existing eye hospitals and clinics
in and outside the state,
(b) study of some hospital design texts and journals,
Scope
The scope of the proposed hospital is limited to the
following:
(i) the out-patient department (O.P.D.),
(ii) a 180 beds in-patient care department,
(iii)the services department which includes, kitchen,
laundry, central stores, and so on.
Conclusion
This exercise intends to serve es a contribution
towards the realisation of the Federal Government's
target of health for all by the year 2C00 A.D.
