dc.description.abstractBank lending and Credit Administration represents an important aspect of Bank Management activities. Without proper credit policy and management, the quality of risk assets that constitute significant portion of Bank assets will be jeopardised. For efficient lending and credit administration in Merchant Banks, certain techniques are employed. Chapter One discussed the background of the study, problems of the study as well as the significance of the study. The methods in which the research was conducted, the scope and limitations of the research were also covered. Literature Review and Theoretical Framework forms Chapter Two of the study. The legal environment for Bank lending in Nigeria as well as principles of good lending otherwise known as canons of lending were also highlighted. The techniques for determining the profitability of lending proposals, the peculiarities of equipment leasing and other forms of assets based lending, securities acceptable for Bank lending also forms part of the chapter. The perfection and documentation as well as enforcement and realisation of securities have also been discussed. Chapters Three and Four covered Credit Policy formulation, analysis, documentation and management. The history, structure and operations of the Bank under study (International Merchant Bank Plc) were also discussed. The Credit Management structure of the Bank, classes of credit facilities extended by the Bank as well as credit analysis and presentation procedures were highlighted. The application of CBN prudential guidelines in problem loan identification and management were also discussed. The study also encompasses credit reviews and portfolio management procedures of the Bank. Finally, Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations were given towards more efficient Bank Lending and Credit Management, that could reduce nonperforming credits of the Bank.en_US
