Abstract
This research work “Availability of School Health Services And Perceived Health Status of Student In Public Boarding Schools of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja” was conducted. The expost facto research design and descriptive survey (a non experimental) method of research was used. The population for the study was three hundred and seventy-five (375) respondents which was mainly on student in public boarding schools of which males and females students were randomly selected from all the eighteen (18) public boarding secondary schools across the six (6) Area councils of FCT, Abuja. The instrument used for data collection was a self structured and validated questionnaire, the demographic characteristics of the respondents were analysed using frequencies (F) and percentages (%). The research questions were analysed using mean and standard deviation. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient (PPMC) was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Based on the result of the data analysed and discussed, it could be concluded as follows: School health services are available in most of the public boarding schools in FCT, Abuja. There exist also, school health guidance and supervision team which help to monitor the health status of students. There is also periodic school inspection for environmental cleanliness and follow-up services programme that seeks to promote the health knowledge attitude and practice of student in schools. School health services which include the nutritional programmes that promote the nutritional level of students in school were equally available in schools. The following recommendations were made: Government should encourage the establishment of more school health services in schools. Conducive environment and opportunity should be given to health officers in schools to attend training programmes to improve their health knowledge. School health facilities should be monitored by the school authorities for proper use by the students.
