A B S T R A C T This project seeks ho appraise the financial system and the modalities of its operations. The highlight is that the financial system is divided into the organised and the unorganised sectors, each with its values, expectations and approaches to financial intermedeation. Within the present setup however, there exist a lot of duplication, waste of resources; and also much prospect for pooling ideas, complementing efforts and doing a better job of mobilizing savings and providing credit facilities for their numerous customers. Such idea of building a bridge between the two sectors requires a lot; the organised sector has the resources and logistics, the unorganised has not, the former also has the legal recognition but the latter lias not. The unorganised is keen on developing and maintaining relations, but the organised sector has not given it a thought. Why is the unorganised sector so desperate? The indigenous savings and mutual aid associations which occupy the Lnformal financial jungles of this country has a lot to offer, even though they have their own problems. If an attempt is made to organise the unorganised sector, it will be put in a better position to be plugged in for a better functioning financial system.en_US
