Abstract
This study investigated Adoption of Legal Deposit Statutory Law on Electronic Information
Resources for Utilization of Digital Repository of National Library of Nigeria to achieve this seven
research objectives were raised, among others to: find out the types of electronic resources are
covered with legal deposit statutory law by National Library of Nigeria, identify the types of digital
repository available for adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources
of National Library of Nigeria, explore the extent in which the strategies employed are relevant for
the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources for utilization of
Digital Repository by National Library of Nigeria. Quantitative research methodology was adopted
using cross-sectional survey strategy. 297 questionnaires were administered and 161 retuned and
found worthy for analysis. The study found that the types of electronic information resources are
covered with legal deposit statutory law by National Library of Nigeria among others were e-audio
visual materials, e-almanacs, e-annual reports, e-books, e-compendium of conferences, econference
papers, e-gazettes and e-maps. The study reveals that the type of digital repository
available is National Repository @power by Eko-Konnect. The study found that type of strategies
available among others were introducing e-policy for submitting books to National Library of
Nigeria, collection base of quality of information publications, digital deposits of information
through dedicated National Library information systems, digital registration of the incoming
deposits of information, The study established that the extent in which the strategies employed is
highly relevant for the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources
for utilization of digital repository of National Library of Nigeria. The study found that the extent in
which the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources is highly
facilitates visibility of information for utilization of Digital Repository. The study also found that
the extent in which the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources
is highly facilitates access of information resources for utilization of Digital Repository of National
Library of Nigeria. The study reveals that extent in which the adoption of legal deposit statutory
law on electronic information resources is highly facilitates use of information resources in digital
repository. The study established that the challenges faced while adopting of legal deposit statutory
law on electronic information resources among others were lack of clear policy for digital
deposition of information; lack of awareness surrounding digital information policy; and lack of
skilled staff for adoption of digital repository. The study concluded that the adoption of the Legal
Deposit Statutory Law on electronic information resources has significantly advanced the
utilization of the Digital Repository of the National Library of Nigeria. This initiative has expanded
the scope of information coverage, ensuring that electronic publications and intellectual resources
are systematically preserved and made accessible for national and international research purposes.
The policy facilitates seamless access to electronic resources, enhances the visibility of Nigerian
scholarly outputs, and supports compliance with global standards for digital repository
management. The study recommended that, more publicity and awareness should be created on
clear policy for digital deposition of information, emphasis should be maintained on the strategies
applied for sustainability of digital deposition of information.
