Abstract
This study was designed to assess the Effects of Students' Unrest on
the Management of Higher Institutions in Kaduna State. The study
was set to achieve some of the following objectives: examine causes
and problems associated with students ' unrest, examine the effects of
underfunding of education on students welfare services, ascertain the
role of guidance and counseling services in averting students ' unrest,
ascertain techniques of the management of students' unrest. Students'
unrest results to loss of lives; if students' unrest results to: loss of
lives, underrated status of qualification, breeds bad school-community
relationships and causes general decay and low in academic
standards. Inadequate funds pushing students in to anti social
behaviour and negative conditions such as truancy, cultism, armed
robbery and examination malpractices, elongation of academic
program etc. Descriptive research method was employed through
which data was collected by the use of questionnaire. The respondents
comprises of 71 staff and 260 students. The data was analyzed and
interpreted though the use of t- test method of analysis. The research
discovered that there were shortages in: funding of education, staff
and facilities in guidance and counseling units and sporting facilities
for students. A lot of property is destroyed, lives lost as a result of
students' unrest, and general students' relationships was poor. In
view of the above it is recommended that government should improve
the funding of education, school community relations be enhanced,
school management should improve ways of internal revenue
generation, involve students in decisions that affect them, and
modernize communication channels between school management and
students through FM radio stations on campuse
