Abstract
Economic analysis of ginger production in Jaba Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State was carried out using multi-stage sampling to select the districts and villages and random sampling to select 160 ginger farmers. The data were collected using questionnaires. The analytical tools employed included descriptive statistics, production function analysis and Gross margin analysis. The results showed that a gross return of N474, 375.00 and a total cost of production of N162, 796.50/ha were realize. Thus, the gross margin was N311, 578.50/ha.Seed was the most prominent cost item in ginger production and it account for about 44% of the total cost. The regression coefficient for the farm size was positive and statistically significant at 1%, while the coefficients of seed, fertilizer and labour were statistically significant at 5% level of probability. In terms of efficiency of resource usage, land, fertilizer and labour were under-utilized while seed was over utilized. The study concluded that ginger production was profitable in the study area. However, there is scope for increasing the profit if the resources are more efficiently utilized.
