| dc.description.abstract | This study was carried out to investigate the Impact of Social Studies Curriculum in Curbing Indiscipline among Upper Basic School Students in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study was guided with four research questions and four hypotheses in order to achieve the stated objectives. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Based on the recommendation of Research Advisors (2006), three hundred and fourty six (346) was sampled out from a total population of three thousand-five hundred and eighty (3,580) students at Upper Basic School. A structured questionnaire designed by the researcher was used as the instrument for data collection and a total of three hundred and sixty (360) was administered. Mean and standard was used in answering research questions and one sample t-test was the tools used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that social studies curriculum has significant impact on curbing examination malpractice; Social Studies curriculum has significant impact on curbing absenteeism; Social Studies curriculum has significant impact on curbing Drug abuse, and Social Studies curriculum has significant impact on minimizing bullying among Upper BasicStudents in Kaduna state, Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study concluded among other things that social studies curriculum is an instrument for curbing examination malpractice among Upper BasicStudents in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study therefore recommended that school authority should adhere to the provision for punishment for students who cheat during examination in social studies curriculum. It is also recommended that the students who absent themselves from the school without being authorized should be sanctioned appropriately to deter students who may want to indulge in absenteeism. The study also recommended that regular briefings and sensitization of students on the negative effects of drugs should be encouraged by the school authority and the students engaged in bullying of other students should be punished appropriately by the relevant school authorities. | |
