Abstract
This study was designed and developed to test the perceptions of Nigerian public librarians on the rol e of Nigerian public librarie s in MAMSER with respect to their working experience , sex, academic and professional qualifications as well as the administrative placement of the library where they work, as variables. Accordingly, relevant hypotheses were formulated, the data collected through an appropriate instrument. The data is then organized and statisticall y tested using relevant statistica l method. At the end of the analysis of the data so collected, the hypotheses were either provded positive or otherwise. The findings were summarized, conclusions drawn based on the findings. At the end of the exercise, some recommendations were provided which it is hoped will promote a bette r understanding of the work and rol e of Nigerian public librarie s especially as the relat e to the enhancement of MAMSER and other social mobilization programmes of future governments. Major findings of the study include the existence of significant differences in the perceptions of Nigerian public librarian s of the rol e of Nigerian public librarie s in MAMSER with respect to working experience, academic qualification and administrative placement of their libraries, while there is no significant sex differences in their perceptions. The study finally concludes tha t there is no homogeniety of perceptions librarian s of Nigerian public librarians on the rol e of Nigerian public librarie s in MAMSER, partly due to lack of adequate information on MAMSER available to them.
