Abstract
This scheme is purely academic exercise but with practical aims. The theme is on "LEATHER PROCESSING INDUSTRY (TANNERY), ZARIA" It is a common awareness that one catalyst that can bring faster rate of economic growth to any nation is the application of modern Science and Thechnology. The aim of industrial revolution and self reliance should start from industries that the basic raw materials are readily available, such industries include leather since all nations possess hides and skins from the animals consumed daily. To achieve this transition period to industrialization architectural disciplines will be employed to provide the following objectives:- A source of revenue for the nation - To create more job opportunities - Maximising daily production and provision for further expansion. - Easy flow of raw materials and finished goods - To provide adequate, efficient and safe communication system through the space relationship within the whole complex., To harmonize the available area functionally, structurally and against fire outbreak. The 1st phase of the scheme is the designing of tannery for 600 hides 6,000 skins (3,000 as wet/blue 3,000 as finished skin) and glue as a by-product. The 2nd phase will focus on the expansion of the production hall. In my design concept, I have heated industrial design problem with great interest and particular consieration to the users as primary and material/machineries as secondary in my architectural solutions. I believed the scheme has thrown more rays of light in the right direction toward my desire as an industrial designer during my archictural practice.
