Abstract
The Federal University of Technology Yola was established
in 1981. Since its Inception , the university has been
expanding are ally as well as in The range of courses . This
entails construction of structures and alloc ation of space for use
There is need therefore for a development plan as t he
university has none now to guide t h e proposed expansion
programme in physical terms.
The Federal University of Technology Yola is located at
the north - east side of Greater Yola across the river Benue
along Yola-Mubi highway.
The existing situation was analyzed and the future needs
of the University determined using the recommendation derived
from the analysis of the NUC standard and the existing situation
ion in eight selected universities in Nigeria.
From the availabl e l i t e r a t u r e , the f o l l o w i n g f a c t o rs
were a p p r a i s e d:
a) Factors governing campus planning and design such as
a v a i l a b i l i t y of land, land c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s , government
policy etc.
b) Conceptual relationship between the campus and the
town, these includes co-ordinated growth, direct
fusion, partial disengagement, and t o t a l disengagement.
c) Design principles such as the ten-fifteen minute
principle, a twenty-four hour principle and a continues
teaching and design principle.
d) Finally conceptual relationship between the campus
elements such as the close-knit type, the loose-tie,
the concentric, the segregated and the dynamic linear
concepts.
