dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to investigate the effect of test anxiety, item order and allotted time on students performance in mathematics. The data for the study were collected by administering two forms of tests to 195 SSS3students randomly drawn from three different post primary schools in Zaria Education Zone of Kaduna State. Firstly a modified Spilberger test anxiety inventory was used to identify students with high and low anxiety was administered. Thereafter a 50 item mathematics objective test, arranged in two different orders - Easy to Difficult and Random arrangements, was administered to the students under two different conditions of time limit and no time limit, as decribed in the next paragraph. The students who were found to have high anxiety were randomly divided into two groups. One group was given the test items that were randomly arranged while the other was given the test items that were arranged from easy to difficult. These two groups of Easy to Difficult and Random arrangement were further sub divided into two groups each with one set answering the test items under a 1 hour 40 minutes time limit and the other set were left to answer the questions under no time limit condition. The same kind of grouping also applied to the low anxiety students.en_US
