dc.description.abstractThis study assesses the effectiveness of National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) in relation to urban poverty reduction and its urban management implications in metropolitan area of Kaduna State. The methodology adopted were statistical inference that involved survey research, through the use of structured questionnaire and interviews for the collection of data. A total of 200 questionnaires were administered to the beneficiaries on the basis of purposive sampling technique, while the criterion of sampling 10 management Staff was based on the available roll call. The major findings from the study revealed that the process of obtaining loan involves complex processes which are not user friendly. There is also misconception of its targets of economic empowerment to satisfying immediate needs. The findings further revealed the age of 21 to 30 years constitutes the highest number of beneficiaries comprises who are unemployed graduates. It is believed that if all the beneficiaries at this age are properly empowered, this could foster economic growth and development of the study area and ultimately curb social vices. In addition, the study also revealed that NAPEP successfully reduce poverty in the study area through improved income, job creation, youth empowerment and development of participatory framework, which are, of direct relevance to urban management. The study therefore, conclude that, there should be proper understanding of the multi-dimensional nature of poverty and the use of city poverty assessment by NAPEP as well as maximum participation by target groups.en_US
