Abstract
This study has been a p r a c t i c a l s t u d i o p r o j e ct
i n v o l v i n g the procurement and p r o c e s s i n g of raw
m a t e r i a l s which included rocks such as q u a r t z and
f e l d s p a r as well as clay l i k e k a o l i n and secondary
c l a y s . The r e s e a r c h a l s o involved t h e f o r m u l a t i on
of clay bodies - e a r t h e n ware, stone ware and
p o r c e l a i n , t h e e x e c u t i o n of s c u l p t u r e s , f i r i n g,
and t h e a p p l i c a t i o n of g l a z e s and c o l o r s on t he
s c u l p t u r e produced as means of f i n i s h i n g.
Samples r e l e v a n t to the study f o r both s t o ne
ware and p o r c e l a i n bodies in t h e form of bars and
t h e s i x t y - s i x t i l e t r i a x i a l blena were made. These
were t e s t e d a c c o r d i n g l y to determine w o r k a b i l i t y,
p l a s t i c i t y , wet , dry, color ana f i r i n g s h r i n k a g e.
I n a d d i t i o n g l a z e samples in d e s i g n e d t i l e s of
t h e t h r e e bodies were made and a l s o t e s t e d for
f i n i s h i n g s u i t a b i l i t y.
The v a r i o u s b o d i e s , f i r i n g t e m p e r a t u r e , g l a z es
and c o l o r s , methods, p h o t o g r a p h i c r e p r o d u c t i o n of
works and l i t e r a t u r e s r e l e v a n t to the p r o j e c t have
been documented i n t h i s w r i t e up.
The end r e s u l t of t h i s p r o j e c t is t he
e x h i b i t i o n of a l l s c u l p t u r e s and samples u n d e r t a k en
i n t h i s r e s e a r c h.
