dc.description.abstractThis research is a critical Edition, Translation and Commentary of Sheikh Uthman b Fodio's work: Kitab al—Amr bi Muwalat al-Mu'minin wa al—Nahyi 'An muwalat al-kafirin - This book is one of the numerous books written by Sheikh Uthman b Fodio. It stresses the importance of Unity among the Muslims through befriending one another. And it also stressed warning against mutual friendship with unbelievers- Sheikh Uthman b Fodio quoted many Quranic verses, Ahadith of the prophet (SAW) and the opinions of many scholars in support of the theme discussed in this work. The organisation of the book was not based on chapterisation. This research is divided into two broad sections- The first section consists of three chapters which include introduction, review of related literature and Methodology. The items contained in the introduction include among others, statement of the problems, significance of the study, objective of the study, scope of the study etc. While in the review of related literature, issues such as the biography of Sheikh Uthman b Fodio, relationship between Sheikh Uthman b Fodio and the Hausa rulers, the issues of Taqiyyah and Ikrah and many related topics were treated in this chapter as commentary of what is obtained in this book. And in the methodology, the method of edition, pre—requisites of an editor and the manuscripts used in the research were fully described.The second section of this research consists of the edited Arabic text of the book: KitJih al-Atr b> Mawalat al-Mn'ninin WB al- Nahyi Jan Muwalat al-kafirin and the translation of the edited text with some footnotes at the bottom of each of the pages. Under the Arabic text, the footnotes explain the references to the Quranic verses, Ahadith of the prophet (SAM) and quotations from other books cited by the author. The footnotes also indicate the various variations found in the manuscripts used in the study. Other footnotes at the bottom of the translation of the edited Arabic text explain certain points in the text especially places cited as references. The footnotes also contain short biography of the authors of the books cited as references by Sheikh Uthman b Fodio and other personalities mentioned in the book. Other items contained in this section are general remarks, recommendations, conclusion, glossary and bibliography.en_US
