Abstract
ABSTRACT An investment house is a building onsciously designed to accommodate administrative and commercial functions of a corporate organisation that undertake investment activities either on behalf of government or individuals. The creation of Kogi State in August 1991 brought the need for accelerated development. Also, the adoption of Lokoja as the State Capital led to rapid growth in population and urbanization of the capital. The above development made tremendous impact on the commercial and economic activities of the people. This brought about the motivation for providing an investment house for the state. The primary objectives of the thesis are:- I. To provide an office building that will efficiently accommodate the Kogi State Investment Company. II. To boast the corporate image of the company. III. to provide alternative source of revenue for the company through lettable spaces. The thesis has looked into thermal control in public buildings especially in hot humid environment like Lokoja. This was carried out through case studies of similar buildings and interviews with users of similar buildings. To make sure the building is in conformity with the local setting, site analysis was done to make sure the design suits the local climate. Brief was developed after consultation with Kogi State Investment Company. This formed the basis for space allocation and subsequently the schedule of accommodation. The design of the complex is made up of the following, the corporate headquarters, Bank branch. Conference hall and shopping mall including all supporting facilities. Adequate attention was paid to parking and general security within the premises. It is hoped that this work will contribute to knowledge especially in the area of thermal control in public buildings in hot and humid environment.
