| dc.description.abstract | Over the years, there has been a consistent, decline in agricultural production. This decline could be attributed to the neglect of this sector since the the upsurge of the petroleum sector- A manifestation of this decline in agricultural production is noticeable in terms of the huge amount expended on food imports- Policy makers have realized their mistakes by their neglect of this sector in recent years, as prices of oil dropped and consequently, a drastic fall in revenue- In view of this, efforts are now being made to revamp the sector by introducing quite a number of measures among which is the provision of agricultural financing by external sources. This research project examines the role of the World Bank in the financing of agricultural development projects in Nigeria with specific reference to Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA). KNARDA was established in 1982 with the aim of enhancing agricultural productivity and boosting the rural economy of Kano State- Both the World Bank, Federal and State Governments have the responsibility of ensuring project success through judicious, timely commitment, mobilisation and allocation of resources. Jigawa State was created out of Kano State in August 1991 and all assets and liabilities were shared between the two states. However, for the purpose of this study, Kano State will be examined as it were before the creation of Jigawa State.
