Abstract
In modern times, tourism has become one of the most
important means of cultural exchange between countries
in addition to providing a very substantial source of
revenue. Normally water sites provides the most ideal
locations for the development of such resorts. The
historic town of Argungu is nationaly famous for its
annual fishing festival held around February - March
every year. The events attracts visitors from all over
the nation and in the last decade from neighbouring
African Cuuntries and abroad, giving it an international
status.
The lack of supporting and appropriate exploitation
of the tourist resource in Argungu has made the attraction
at other times of the year to the barest minimum.
Increasingly, government persistent interest in the
place leave much to be desired in the form of hopes and
dreams for the area. More so, infrastructural development
in the existing festival village is an effort that need to
be uphold to take a more proper course Or bearing. Hence
the idea of a tourist resort for the town of Argungu.
Resorts of this nature are known to vary according to
resource available for utilization. The problems raised
in the existing festival village is that of function and
inorganic nature of its setting.
The resort from the stand of the scope will provide
for recreational, socio-cultural, Educational and Economic
benefits.
Landscaping will also be given emphasis. The goal
of the submission, among other things, is to Encourage
the development of tourism in the state and thus Create
a better understanding with the rest of the populace.
It is also hope to he used as an avenue for exploding
the myth of self-reliance.
The specific objective however, shall be to provide
adequate community facilities in the resort to promote
presentation and appreciation of intrinsic cultural
values of the area and the nation. The thesis will also
seek to create a resort that reflects the need of the
overall development of the area as regards tourism.
It is hope that the thesis will open up possibilities
for exploitating our resources to favour much
needed development.
