The International factor has been the forgotten dimension in most studies of democratic transition in Nigeria. Growing work on this problem, both theoretical and empirical, has continued largely to ignore international influences and effects on the causes, processes and outcomes of transition in Nigeria, between the years of 1985 - 1995. Yet the internationalisation of Nigeria's transition from authoritarianism to liberal democracy is clearly a dimension of some importance. The direct impact or indirect influence on democratisation of international organisations of one or other super-power or other states in the African region and of non-governmental organisations on Nigeria's transition is point of focus. The crucial overall consideration is the interaction between this external environment and internal Nigeria military government, during the transition. The factor of international community on Nigeria's transition programme apparently explains the vulnerability of Nigeria's internal political systems to international influence. The interest of the international community stems from Nigeria's position and influence in African continent and her foreign policy objectives. While the interest of international forces especially the multi-national corporations as well as international organisations on the transition can not be over emphasiseden_US
