dc.description.abstractThis study assessed how the managemert aspect of Plateau Express Service Limited affects its performance. To facilitate this assessment, a combination of primary and secondary data were employed. The primary data was obtained through the administration of questionnaires, and oral interview, while the secondary data was ootained from related literature and official documents of the corporation. Results of the study indicate that tie phenomenon of high labour turn-over, inadequate funding, too much political interference evident in the corporation affect its performance. However the result indicates that there is in place proper coordination of operation hence the hypothesis linking the effect of poor co-ordinatior of operation in PESL and its performance proves negative. • To make up for the lapses in personnel management of PESL, this study has recommended that the high labour turnover syndrome should be arrested by charging personnel only on cogent reasons and making the appointment of the chief executive non political. On the problem of inadequate funding, the study recommended that PESL should seek for either bank loans or enter into partnership or both. In addition, the corporation is advised to further strengthened its control mechanism to avert the situation of diversion of funds for the enhancement of its economic base. Government is enjoined to grant the management of PESL partial operational autonomy, in both its personnel and financial management. Finally, further research is necessary into some areas to further ascertain how the performance of PESL can be improve. The areas identified in this study are, the relationship between federal urban mass transit agency and state transport corporations; the link between training of staff and the performance of the corporation; and ths relationship between transport agencies and commercial banks interms of agencies accessibility to loans. It is believed that this stu3y should have been worthwhile, if its objective is seen tD have been achieved.en_US
