| dc.description.abstract | Tnis research is a critical edition, translation and commentry on Usul-al-wilayan the principles of sainthood) which was written, by shaykn uthman D. Fodio concerning tne concept, principles and conditions of sainthood in Islam. He organised the bOOK into eighteen sections. In the booK, tne author discussed a numoer of important issues or Wilayah and Tasawwuf. rhe first section of tne book discussed now a sincere Muslim snould dedicate himself to the obedience of Allah and tnen explained sunni requirements in sufism. Tne qualifications or the Shaykn who gives training to the novice have also been discussed. Tne book concludes that every sincere muslim ought to receive a moral training from a pious shaykn, and by following the guiding principles or the Shariah tne novice is led step-by-step until ne is able to attain spiritual perfection or sainthood. Tne researcn is basically on the edition of Usui al-Wilayah attributed to shaKh Uthman b. Fodio and the researcher has successea to produce an edited copy. Tne researcn has confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt that, the DOOK Usul al-Wilayah was written by shaykh Uthman B. Fodio. Beside the edition an attempt is (vii) also made to provide an English translation or the book for tne benetit of people who are not familiar with tne Arabic language. Tne book has mucn significance to the spiritual needs and training of sincere Muslims while it is at the same time an intellectual contribution wnich Nigerian scholars and other nations need for proper understanding of islam.
