dc.description.abstractFrom the vast field of study which collective group action provides not only for the business manager, but also for the Political Scientist, Economist, Sociologist and the Social Psychologist, I have selected for study the role of committees in the management of an organization, in this, case the Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri. The committee is one of the most maligned, most frequently errrployed forms of organization structure. Despite the criticisms? committees are fact of organization life. It is the contention of this study that committees have too often boon recklessly employed in performing the managerial activities in an organization without the due considerations of the whole principles involved in the use of committees in an organization. This study is undertaken therefore to examine the role of committees in the management of the Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, having in mind such activities as planning, coordination, policy making, advising and execution. The study goes further into examining the most significant problems faced by the committee system in performing its role in management, and what possible solutions could be employed to minimize these problems.
