Abstract
This study investigated the utilization of
instructional media in some selected Grade II
Teacher Training Colleges in Kaduna State. By
instructional media the researcher refers to all
forms of information device that can be used to
promote and encourage effective teaching-learning
activities.
In order to find out what exists in each
college and what is effectively used in the
colleges, the researcher designed and used two
different structured questionnaires. One was meant
for the college principals and their media
personnel. In all 104 questionnaires were
administered and 78.84% responded. The responses
were used in analysing the data and drawing
conclusions in this study.
Among the findings of this investigation are
that:
<1> Most of the colleges investigated have no
instructional media.
(11) In the few colleges that have them, the
instructional media are not effectively used.
(iii) Teachers do not know how to use some
instructional media.
- i v -
<lv) They (teachers) have no training in
instructional media.
(v) Teachers cannot improvise their own
i nstr ucti ona1 ma teri a 1s .
(vi) There are no media personnel in the
colJ eges.
(vLi) Instructional media equipment and
materials are not maintained.
(viii) Whei e the equipment and materials are
avalJable, there are no physical facilities to use
them effectively.
(ix) Instructional media are in limited number
because there is not enough fund to purchase the
qu i pme n t a nd ma t e i i a 1 s .
Jn view of these problems such as difficulty in
acquisition, non-availability, ineffective
utilization and lack of ma L ntai nance, all we need
to do is to maximize our efforts in improvising
instructional media relevant to our needs and
aspirations.
