There seemed to be a desparit y in resourc e provisio n between the firs t and second generatio n college s of education despit e the fac t tha t their end products ar e expected to serve the same purpose to achieve the nationa l objective s of education in Nigeria . The importance of librar y resource s in the support of t h e production of qualifie d teachers is taken to be next to teachers. The trend of hastel y establishemen t of the colegws has threfor e lead to the inadequate resources provision for the support of the needed informed teachers. This study made genuine efforts to examine the library resources in five collegees of education in Nigeria which were regrouped into first and second generation colleges. The ultimate objective was to determine the adequacy OT inadequacy of their resources for the support of teacher education and also determine differences and semilarities that exist between them in terms of resource provision. ix To gather the data necessary for this study, three instruments were used. These were questionnaires, interviews and observations. The questionnaires were of two types. Questionnaire 'A' was administered to Heads of Libraries. Questionnaire 'B' was administered to lecturers and students. The two groups of respondents were also interviewed. Observations were directly made of the resources and the facilitie s tha t were available. Also used were determined resources and standards and against which the data collected were interpreted. Likest scale and cumulative percentage were used for the analysis of data and which enabled easy comparison.en_US
