Abstract
Forms in ecclesiastic architecture apart from the coverage and identity function it performs, is said
to give the church a symbolic (image) which differentiate it from any other building around it during
the early Christian architectural movements (A.D. 313 to 18th C). Today the symbolic image in
Pentecostal churches is observed to be appearing deceptive to viewers and its users both learned and
unlearned despite the architectural technological advancement. Any public building that cannot
explain its function to viewers is said to have some architectural symbolic problems which can not
be overlooked.
The intent of this thesis, is to have a detailed study of conventional forms used for penticostal
worship and how to incorporate it into the proposed design of the Assemblies of God Church
headquarter Kaduna. Thus the thesis seeks to address the problem of deceptive appearance of forms
in terms of symbolic character in church architecture which can be evidently seen in the majority of
the Pentecostal churches been built nowadays.
Also the thesis again has the view of forwarding a design proposal that will seek to provide an
administrative facility for the Assemblies of God Churches function which could also be a source
of revenue.
The thesis is structured into seven chapters, the first is the introductory aspect, the second deals with
literature review, the thesis problem definition and its application on Assemblies of God functions.
The third is the problem case study. The fourth is the design consideration. The fifth is the
functional requirements. The sixth deals with the functional flow diagrams and site information
while the seventh chapter deals with the design report, thesis conclusions and recommendation.
